The Breeders Division supports eligible producers purchasing or maintaining breeder cattle, with clear program expectations and direct office support.

Program Particulars

  • Eligible livestock: bred heifers, young cows, or cow/calf pairs.
  • Minimum loan: 5 head or $5,000.
  • $200 lifetime non-refundable membership fee.
  • $12 per head/per year administration cost.
  • One-time $125 setup fee for Security Agreement registration.
  • First year administration and Group Protection Plan costs may be written into the loan amount.
  • All financed cattle must carry the Foothills Livestock Co-op brand.
  • Must own land or have a co-applicant who does.

Rates, Protection & Purchasing

  • Interest options: floating Prime + 1% or fixed rate determined from time to time.
  • Mandatory Group Protection Plan applies.
  • Accidental premium: $3.50 per head per year.
  • Full Mortality premium: 1.5% of cow value per year.
  • Deductible will apply.
  • Purchases may be through Auction Marts or Private Treaty.
  • Private Treaty purchases require a Certified Brand Inspection payable by the Member.

Cow/Calf Pair Loan Breakdown

The cow and calf portions are connected, with the cow portion treated differently than the calf portion.

75%

Cows

75% of the financed amount. The cow portion is interest-only for the first year, with the first principal payment made the following year.

25%

Calves

25% of the financed amount. The calf portion is due December 1 of the current year unless calves are sold earlier.
